Dewatering Centrifuge Expansion - Phase I: Prior to the full scale expansion of centrifuge facilities, increases in sludge flows to the Dewatering Facility requires an increase in capacity. This capacity increase is being accomplished by the installation of dewatering centrifuges. This project will provide for the installation of three high speed, high solid 500 gpm centrifuges.

Phase I Dewatering Interim Centrufuge Expansion (DICE 1): The dewatering centrufuges procured under the project were installed in a new facility west of the existing facility. The method used to implement the Centrifuge Expansion was outlined in a Concept/Predesign Report. Dean Ryan is providing design, permitting, construction management and start-up support for the recommended modifications. The completed facilities were tested for compliance with their Air Quality Management District permit.

Phase II Denaturing Centrifuge Expansion Procurement: With continual increases expected in digested sludge required to be denatured, the existing centrifuge facilities will require expansion to meet projected 1998 capacity. This project entailed the procurement of the centrifuges to be utilized for the second expansion phase. Based upon the results of the tests performed and an analysis of the cost-effectiveness, Dean Ryan determined that the centrifuges needed to be replaced. Dean Ryan prepared the procurement documents and provided assistance during the bidding process. Shop inspection were provided along with administration of the procurement contract.

Phase II-Dewatering Centrifuge Expansion Facility - The centrifuges procured will be installed in an expanded sludge dewatering facility to be constructed on the east side of the facility. The concept for expansion of the Dewatering Centrifuge Facilities are outlined in a Concept/Predesign Report. Dean Ryan provided design, permitting, construction management and start-up support in connection with the recommended modifications. Dean Ryan tested the completed facilities for compliance with conditions of the AQMD permit.

Dewatering Centrufuge Replacement - The dewatering centrifuges that were replaced and expanded were placed in service during the mid-1980's. At this time, they represent outdated technology and are, in fact, no longer manufactured. By the mid-1990's, the units will have reached the end of their mechanical life. Dean Ryan will provide the design, permitting, construction management and start-up support for the recommended modifications.
